Is there a Virus Cleaner on the email server?
Yes
Do I need to do anything to make sure that my email is being scanned?
No
Are you scanning the email and files on my PC?
No. If you are sending and receiving email through the FireBrickSky email servers than we scan only that stream of data. We do NOT scan anything on your computer.
Do I still need to purchase AntiVirus Software?
Although we update our virus signatures every hour of every day of the year it is still a good idea to have some AnitVirus software installed. The reality is that the cure (signature) only gets created when a virus is discovered. Presently we have over 22,000 signatures in our database.
Does your Anti Virus cleaner protect me from surfing the Internet? Am I behind a firewall?
NO. We are NOT protecting you from surfing the Internet. You are only connecting to our servers for email. We strongly urge you to purchase Anti Virus software and a Firewall. You can purchase a software firewall that also has Anti Virus Protection or you can get a Cable/DSL router and that will provide you with firewalling capabilities. If you are using Windows XP there is a built in firewall and you can configure that.
Is there a way for me to test to see if my Anti Virus Program on my PC is working properly?
Yes. There is a standard NON-DESTRUCTIVE test signature that is used by all Anti Virus Programs called Eicar. If your AV software is properly configred and running it should detect the virus. Go to www.firebricksky.net/support/virus/ and download the eicar.com test virus. If your Anti Virus software is working properly then it should be detected.
