Thunderbird setup

Mozilla Thunderbird Setup(2.x)

  1. If you are using a router you may have to reconfigure it to allow the connection.
  2. Please Note WindowsXP has a firewall. This may prevent you from making a network connection.
  3. If you have an AntiVirus program, that may also prevent you from making a connection to our servers. Please read your instructions from the AntiVirus program how to allow this connection to happen.
  4. Open Thunderbrid
  5. From the menu choose File-> New-> Accounts
  6. A window should popup Account Wizard.
  7. Select Emai Account Click on Next.
  8. Your Name, you can choose whatever you like. Or enter firebricksky.
  9. Email Addres enter you@yourdomain.com and click Next
  10. Select the type of incoming server: POP
  11. Incoming Server: mail3.firebricksky.net
  12. Uncheck the Use Global Inbox, click on Next
  13. Usernames window:
    1. Incoming User Name: type your assigned username
    2. Outgoing User Name: same as above username
    Click on Next
  14. Account Name, give this a friendly name such as my work, firebricksky.ney, etc...
  15. Click on Finish
  16. You need to now edit the account for an encrypted connection.
  17. From the menu choose File-> New-> Accounts
  18. Select the new account you just created (firebricksky) click on the Server Settings
  19. Change the connection type
    1. Change the port number to 995
    2. Select SSL
    3. Unselect the Use secure authentication

    1. Check Check for new messages at startup
    2. Check Check for new messages every, enter 5 in the box
    3. Check Automatically download new messages Uncheck the Fetch Headers Only Uncheck the Leave messages on the server
    4. Empty Trash on Exit, you decide if you want this
  20. Now we need to setup the Outgoing Server portion. Scroll down the list until you see Outgoing Server (SMTP), Click on it
  21. Click on Add
  22. SMTP Server
    1. Description: mail3.firebricksky.net
    2. Server Name: mail3.firebricksky.net
    3. Port: 465

    Security Authentication
    1. Check Use name and password
    2. Enter your username same as the incoming one
    3. Note. You will be asked for a password the firts tim you make a connection to the server
    4. Use secure connection: Check SSL
    5. Click OK
  23. Click OK
  24. Now retrieve your email. Click on the Get Mail icon on the main Thunderbird window
  25. Done.

* Please Note, you may also need to reconfigure your firewall or DSL/Cable Router to allow the secure connections
