anti spam tips

Does FireBrickSky use Anti-SPAM filters?
Yes we do. Are filters are pretty aggresive. You may receive email form you family and friends and may be marked as SPAM. You can alwyas "White-list" and "Black-List" recipitents through webmail

Should I click on the Remove link?
No. Do NOT, ever, click on the REMOVE link Spammers. This will verify your email address as VALID and your address will be added to their list and sold to more Spammers

Use Forms on your Website
If you want to enable users of your website to contact you online, provide a form. But make sure the "send to" email address is not contained in the html page, but in the form processing script.

Hide you email address on your website
Spammers use special programs that extract email addresses from Web sites and Usenet postings. To avoid ending up on a spammer's mailing list when you post to a Web forum or a newsgroup, you can obscure your email address by inserting something obvious into it. If my email address is alex@yahoo.com, I modify it to read alex@yah[delete_this]oo.com. You can also use UUEncoded characters that will still appear as human readable text but it will appears as giberous. Talk to your web designer on how to do this.

Be Careful who you sign up with on the Internet
A lot of websites that entice you with freebies want to harvest those emails and sell them to some marketting company. If you really need to signup get yourself an account with one of the Free Webmail providers and use that email address for Internet sites that you suspect are up to no good.

Do not click on Popups
A lot of websites you may visit have popups that look suspiciuosly similar to the window popup that you would get from running some application on your Operating system. These popups are carefully crafted to look like a message from your Operating system but are really clickable images that install cookies on your computer and other nefariuos things. Do not click in the window that looks like a button. Click on the upper right hand side of the popup window that has the "X" to close the window.

Do not open email from someone you do not recognize
Normally what a spammer will do they will embed a link or "Web Beacon" that when you open you email will basically verify that you have recieved their spam and it is a valid email address.

Forward us the spam
If you are receiving spam you can configure SpamAssasin through your Webmail to Identify it easier and blaclist the domain or sender. You can also whitelist some domains that our AnitSpam software may be providing a false positive. You can also forward the spam to us at abuse@firebricksky.net and we will try to deal with it.

By the way. If you think we broke our own advice by putting our email on the website? Look again. Using Internet Expolorer Click on View from the top of the menu and then Source. If you scroll all the way to the bottom you will see mailt and on and on. These characters are interpretted by the Browser but most spiders won't know what to do with them.
